The Chord Company’s latest shielded speaker cable promises to deliver a high-quality audio experience, no matter the content source; whether it be a TV show or a movie. Best of all, it plans to do so with a cable costing £5p/m.
C-screen is a shielded speaker cable aimed at both audio and home cinema systems. It joins Chord Company’s other shielded speaker cables, including the Clearway and the high-performance Signature Reference.
With the C-Screen, the company has decided to take a different approach; offering a low-cost solution, while matching it with high-performance.
Chord’s design objective was to produce a cable discreet enough for easy installation, with all the performance benefits that shielding can bring.
C-screen is 8mm in diameter and enough to route around corners. For added discretion, it’s finished with a white outer jacket which protects the shielding and makes it virtually invisible against white skirting boards.
The Chord Company has designed the cable specifically to reduce interference with multi-stranded oxygen-free copper conductors, insulated with low-density polyethylene and arranged in a twisted-pair configuration.
The cable is then enclosed in a PVC casing that reduces mechanical noise and spaces the conductors correctly, relative to the twin-foil shielding.
Installers familiar with the Chord Company’s line-up of shielded speaker cables should feel at home with the C-Screen. It has been designed to work and feel like the company’s other products.
Unlike some expensive cables on the market however, the Chord Company’s speaker cables are arguably affordable for the performance they promise.
At £5 per metre, the company is hoping that high-end home cinema installers will be regular customers, where complex cable-run requirements are the norm.
The £5 price is for the unterminated (off the reel) cables however, with factory and dealer terminations also available for a supplement.
