Bang & Olufsen is set to auction off five of its iconic BeoSound 1 wireless speakers, with each one being available in a one-of-a-kind colour. The auction will be overseen by Sotherby’s and will take place on July 5.

These five unique colours have technically been around since autumn 2016, with Bang & Olufsen initially using them to showcase the capabilities of its aluminium factory. Each colour was created by anodising the metal and dying it one at a time, a process which the company says required a day-long takeover of its anodising plant.

These Beosound 1 speakers aren’t just available in unique colours, but they will also be collectors’ items thanks to their engraving. Each of the five BeoSound 1 have been engraved ‘1/1’ to signify its uniqueness.

“Sotheby’s represents the height of luxury and sophistication, and we would be hard pressed to find a more suitable venue for the sale of these one-of-a-kind products,” says John Mollanger, Bang & Olufsen’s executive vice president of brand and markets.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Bang & Olufsen on this carefully curated capsule collection that will be offered for auction. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for Bang & Olufsen enthusiasts and art collectors alike to acquire a sophisticated wireless speaker system that’s also a unique work of art in its own right,” concludes Josh Pullan, Sotheby’s senior vice president and global head of ecommerce.
