Onkyo is officially rolling out Google Chromecast support to a whole slate of its devices, including those from its subsidiary brands, Pioneer and Integra. Amongst the devices receiving Chromecast support are the company’s AV receivers, wireless speakers and soundbars.
While Chromecast support through a firmware update is hardly new, Raumfeld did the same at the end of last year, Onkyo’s latest update is available to an extremely diverse product line-up. Through the added support, users can now stream directly from their mobile device or Chrome browser to hundreds of devices.
The Onkyo branded products officially set to receive the Chromecast update includes the following AV receivers:
- TX-NR575
- TX-NR676
- TX-NR555
- TX-NR656
- TX-NR757
- TX-RZ610
- TX-RZ710
- TX-RZ810
- TX-RZ1100
- TX-RZ3100
- TX-8270
- PR-RZ5100
The SBT-A500 soundbar system, NCP-302 multi-room wireless speaker and HT-S7800 home theatre in a box will also receive the Chromecast update.
As Onkyo now includes more than just its own branded products, the company is set to also bring its Chromecast update to products from the Integra range, which includes the DLB-5 soundbar system – a product that touts both DTS:X and Dolby Atmos.
Integra’s AV receivers set to receive Chromecast support include:
- DRC-R1
- DRX-R1
- DRX-2
- DRX-3
- DRX-4
- DRX-5
- DRX-7
- DSX-3
The final brand to get Google Chromecast support is Pioneer, which is not entirely surprising – as the company AV receivers are essentially carbon copies of those badged Onkyo. The Pioneer AV receivers confirmed for the Chromecast update include:
- SC-LX901
- SC-LX801
- SC-LX701
- SX-LX501
- VSX-L301
- SX-S30
- VSX-1131
- VSX-832
Pioneer will also be bringing the Chromecast update to its FS-EB70 soundbar, X-HM76 network receiver, and MRX-3 multi-room wireless speaker.
Google Chromecast Benefits
Google’s Chromecast technology has gradually been making its way to more AV products than ever before. The technology is already baked into hardware from LG, Sony, Bang & Olufsen, Polk Audio, and Raumfeld. Additional brands are already lined-up to bring Chromecast to their products in the future, including Harman/Kardon and JBL.
There are several benefits to baking in Chromecast – namely the ability to natively cast music from a range of apps on iOS and Android devices, as well as the Chrome browser – but arguably it’s key strength is its ability to support Google Home.
Utilising Google Home and the Google Assistant, users can wirelessly stream music to their Onkyo devices using nothing but their voice. Users will also be able to control the volume of their Chromecast-enabled speaker using their voice.
