Sky is expanding its support for Dolby Atmos, with films on Sky Cinema and the Sky Store set to be available in the 3D audio format. That’s in addition to the 124 live Premier League games that have already been broadcasting in Dolby Atmos.
There are currently 103 Sky Cinema titles that are available in Dolby Atmos on Sky Q, with the titles also streaming in 4K. The current roster includes titles such as Ghost in the Shell, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Star Trek Beyond, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and xXx: Return of Xander Cage.
While Sky Cinema will be the best place for watching 4K and Dolby Atmos films, viewers will also be able to pay to enjoy some of the latest and greatest films in the formats. That’s because there are also some titles available on the Sky Store, including Transformers: The Last Knight, which can be rented for £3.50.
As with most movies offered by the satellite broadcaster, customers will need to add Sky Cinema to their Sky Q subscription to take advantage of the new offerings. That’s available as a £10 a month option, although with both UHD and Dolby Atmos offered on a wide range of titles, it could easily be more cost effective than purchasing individual 4K Blu-rays.
