Yesterday CE Pro Europe identified the Sonos One as one of the best alternatives to the now-delayed Apple HomePod, and there’s now one more reason why that’s the case. That’s because Alexa can now control Spotify on the Sonos One smart speaker.
Sonos had already promised that Alexa would be capable of controlling Spotify by December 21, and the company has made good on that promise way ahead of schedule. That means those with a Sonos One can now tell Alexa to play just about anything on Spotify – whether it be playlists, artists, albums or songs.
Spotify had been the only glaring problem with the Sonos One, which has garnered rave reviews from the consumer tech press. Now that’s sorted there’s little standing in this smart speaker’s way on its way to be one of the must-have gifts of Christmas 2017.
The addition of Spotify control through Alexa adds to the capabilities of this smart speaker made for music lovers. The Sonos One is already capable of playing music from more streaming services than any other on the market – thanks to Sonos’ existing relationships. That means users don’t need to wait for the HomePod to ship to enjoy Apple Music on a smart speaker – although it can only be streamed from the app currently, and not using Alexa voice control.
