Lewis CaliburnFocal is continuing its partnership with DS Automobiles by delivering the sound system for the DS N°4 and DS N°8.
The DS N°4 debuts with the Focal Electra hi-fi system: 14 speaker drivers powered by a 690-watt amplifier, delivering immersive depth and refined clarity.
Conceived as a centrepiece of onboard comfort, the Focal Electra system includes 14 speaker drivers powered by a 16-channel, 690-watt amplifier.
At the heart of the system are Focal’s signature technologies: inverted dome tweeters for controlled treble directivity; Polyglass woofers integrated into the doors with lightweight, rigid-yet-damped membranes to ensure extended bandwidth and flawless transients and a triple-coil subwoofer that handles power.
Settings are customisable via the onboard computer, such as ‘Front Optimised’ for a three-dimensional, immersive experience in the front and surround level adjustments at the rear for enhanced listening tailored to personal taste.
Meanwhile, the DS N°8 introduces the ELECTRA 3D by Focal system: a 14-driver, 3D audio setup with TAM 3D tweeters and a Power Flower subwoofer, which claims to offer the feeling of live music inside a fully electric model.
ELECTRA 3D BY FOCAL is the audio system developed by the French brand for the DS N°8 electric model. The installation is made up of 14 speaker drivers, including new designs offering 3D audio output. According to the manufacturer, this creates “an unrivalled sense of immersion for passengers, and for every musical register”.
With ELECTRA 3D BY FOCAL, Focal has developed a system that combines performance, reliability and innovation. It follows on from the Focal Electra system, bringing an immersive 3D sound experience. 14 speaker drivers make up the system, along with a 690-watt amplifier.
Cutting-edge TAM 3D tweeters, strategically positioned in the front cab roof, along with the surround speakers integrated into the cargo cover frame in the back, provide audio immersion.
The sound effects combine width, depth and height to put the passengers right in the centre of the music. In addition, DS N°8 benefits from benchmark- level soundproofing that further enhances the audio output, and the immersive experience for passengers on board.
Focal claims that the system is capable of “flawlessly reproducing the entirety of the audio spectrum”, from ultra-high to ultra-low pitch, thanks to its high-performance membranes such as Polyglass for the woofers and inverted aluminium/magnesium domes for the tweeters.
Each of the drivers is capable of absorbing the high power output from the Class D amplifier, in order to faithfully reproduce every dynamic of the music. Finally, all the audio sources are temporally aligned at ear level using advanced digital signal processing, ensuring that all the sound reaches you at the same time. The result is a holographic audio image, with a consistent system offering precision.
ELECTRA 3D BY FOCAL is also about personalising the system. The system offers two listening modes: “All Passengers”, which optimises stereo sound for each passenger and “Front Optimised”, creating a wider and more immersive sound stage for the driver and front passenger.
Various custom settings are also available, including the 3D sound intensity level for soundstage elevation (Light, Immersive or Intense) and adjustment of the subwoofers and surround speaker drivers.
