CEDIA is hoping to court electrical contractors, with a discount available to Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) members who would like to attend a CEDIA training course.

The custom install industry has been increasingly reaching out to electrical contracting industry, with the ECA encouraging its members to take on smart home installations as part of their day-to-day jobs. The ECA even spoke at EI Live! 2016, the UK’s largest custom install show.

ECA members who are interested in getting up to speed with all that is required to be a custom installer, will have a variety of courses available to them at a discounted rate. All the courses available to ECA members at a lower price are part of CEDIA’s City & Guilds Smart Home Technician Track, although they exclude certification exams.

A total of 12 training courses are available at a discounted rate, including the CEDIA Boot Camp, ESC Technical School and Networking schools – all of which are available for £2,519.10 + VAT.

CEDIA provides various courses and opportunities that are suitable for electrical contractors who are either home technology novices or more experienced AV professionals. For beginners wanting to discover more about the home technology industry, the CEDIA Boot Camp includes a number of foundation courses, such as Essential Technical and Personal Skills for Installers and Rack Building and Wiring Fundamentals. For those already working in the home technology market, CEDIA’s Smart Home Technician Track includes more detailed courses such as Advanced Residential Networking.

“With new technology, unfamiliar terminology and specialist skills, training is an essential step for those electrical contractors who are looking to enter the home technology industry”, comments Matt Nimmons, managing director, CEDIA EMEA.

“Recognised by City & Guilds, ECA members who complete CEDIA’s Smart Home Technician programme will be instantly acknowledged as skilled professionals in smart home technology across the globe. Not only will this increase an electrical contractor’s proficiency within the home technology industry, but will also make business opportunities in countries such as India, South Africa and UAE, where there is an ever growing interest in smart home technology, more viable and obtainable.”
