Sam Woodward is regarded as being highly influential in the lighting industry.
With a career spanning over 13 years, Sam currently works for Lutron Electronics, working on the development and delivery of training on control of lighting and shading for commercial and residential applications.
Sam’s start in the industry began after working on some of the biggest films in cinema history.
“I joined the lighting industry from the entertainment world where I had worked in physical special effects, mostly electronics and explosives, for TV and film,” says Sam. “Credits include James Bond, Gladiator and Tomb Raider, as well as producing live son-et-lumiere events, synchronising lasers and fireworks. I started in the installed-lighting world doing electronic product development for a UK manufacturer, writing software and designing dimming systems.”
Sam’s style of training has been recognised as being able to bridge the gap between complex technical products and clear operational requirements.
With his ISE course, ‘The LED Revolution’ he is aiming to achieve the same result for the individuals attending.
“The revolution in light-sources has brought many benefits, including efficiency and longevity, but it’s not been without new challenges,’ he says.
“Most installers have suffered with flicker problems when dimming. This course takes away their pain and gives an array of practical solutions to achieve smooth, stable, LED dimming.
“This is an exciting time for the industry, with networking and communications technologies making the IoT a reality, at the same time as new light-sources in LEDs, giving us better lamps and fixtures,” he says when talking about the future of the industry.
“This wealth of new technology must lead to increased consumer convenience and comfort – we must never forget that we are designing systems for real end users!”
With ISE 2016 just around the corner, Sam shares what is he most looking forward to at this years show.
“I’m looking forward to connecting with engineers at the CEDIA seminars, helping them to be successful in their projects and to embrace a whole host of new technologies,” he concludes.
