Iconic Bang & Olufsen Design features rare David Bowie image in exclusive collaboration with acclaimed photographer Denis O’regan.
As part of a highly exclusive collaboration with acclaimed British music photographer Denis O’Regan, Bang & Olufsen is pleased to announce a limited-edition collection of its iconic Beosound A9 speaker.
A statement in sound and sight, the A9 design will soon be even more desirable, as a limited-edition run of 30 will feature canvas covers adorned with a rare image of David Bowie, shot by O’Regan.
This long-planned partnership brings together one of Bang & Olufsen’s most recognisable products with one of O’Regan’s most legendary subjects.
The image of Denis’ most closely associated musical partner will not only feature on the fabric cover, but each £3,995 speaker is also accompanied by a 12in x 8in limited-edition print signed and numbered by Denis, a printed box ‘sleeve’ and a Certificate of Authenticity to serve as official provenance for the collaboration.
Appropriately, this partnership celebrates one of the company’s classic products. Bang & Olufsen and Øivind Alexander Slaatto designed the original Beoplay A9 to be timeless, and it remains one of the most loved products in the company’s portfolio.
Behind Beosound A9’s effortless exterior lies an intricate world of power. Seven custom-built drivers deliver exceptional detail. Clear vocals, crisp instrumentation, deep bass – and enough volume to fill any room. It’s as rich as it is rounded, says the maker.
Crafted from premium anodised aluminium, fabric and real oak, it is described as a timeless work of art that can be customised to match any space and taste. The A9 is also a flexible design. Most people know it standing on the three wooden legs, but it can also be wall-mounted, transitioning into a statement piece of art. An apt feature considering this collaboration.
“It is entirely appropriate that one of our most iconic designs, the Beosound A9, should act as the canvas for this classic image of a British music icon. The A9 doesn’t look like any other speaker and its distinctive circular canvas can be put on display anywhere, transforming sound to a piece of art through its form factor and highly limited-edition partnerships, such as this one. We want to empower our customers to curate, artisan pieces for their homes, through collaborations with acclaimed artists such as Denis”, says Tom McKenna, Market Director at Bang & Olufsen.

Rock history
Following the first flash of his lens in the early 1970s while sneaking in a camera to see Paul McCartney perform at the Hammersmith Odeon, London born and bred Denis taught himself photography to get closer to his musical heroes. Particularly enthralled by the inimitably charismatic character of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, little did the youthful music enthusiast know that he would go on to become the man to photograph Bowie – one of the most important pop icons of all time – more than any other. Their collaboration undeniably creating some of the most enduring images of the musician’s career.
Since then, Denis’ collaboration list is unparalleled. Having photographed everyone from AC/DC to ZZ Top, notable accomplishments include: working as official photographer at Live Aid, travelling as official photographer to David Bowie, Duran Duran, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Queen, Neil Diamond, Bee Gees, Pink Floyd and Thin Lizzy and being appointed as the first ever Artist in Residence for the Royal Albert Hall.
Denis comments, “Throughout my career I’ve been privileged to hear fans and collectors describe one of my images as their ‘favourite picture of Bowie’. Five years after crouching in the aisle at Newcastle’s City Hall to capture this image, I set off on one of two stadium tours accompanying David around the world as his chosen photographer. This favourite of mine is the image I’ve selected as my chosen moment for the B&O A9 speaker cover.”
