Optoma has announced a brand-new line-up of short and ultra-short throw projectors, with the new models boasting a laser light source. The new range is made up of two short throw models, the ZW310STe and ZX310STe, as well as two ultra-short throw models, the ZQ300USTe and ZW300USTie.
Laser projection technology is becoming increasingly popular in commercial environments thanks to their lower total cost of ownership. That’s predominantly because, unlike lamp-based projectors, laser projectors require little maintenance and will keep operating for longer. For example, these latest models from Optoma promise to last 20,000 hours at full brightness.
Short throw and ultra-short throw projectors can often be found in schools, colleges or small meeting rooms, and that’s exactly the kind of installations that Optoma is targeting with these latest models. The short throw models are ideal for rooms that have a little more room to spare, with it capable of projecting a 100in image from a metre away, while the ultra-short throw models are for when room is tight – with it capable of projecting a 100in image from just 55cm away.
The ultra-short throw models boast a few extra features that their short throw counterparts lack, such as the addition of a media player, as well as the option of wireless and a powered USB port. The ZW300USTe and ZW300USTie also both boast a WXGA resolution, while only one short throw model has that resolution – the ZW310STe. The ZX310Ste offers an XGA resolution.
There is one drawback to the ultra-short throw models and that’s the drop in brightness. While the ZW310STe is capable of outputting at 3,600 ANSI lumens, the other three new laser projectors are slightly duller at 3,500 ANSI lumens. That shouldn’t be all too noticeable, but it’s something to bear in mind when it comes to specifying these new projectors.
Thankfully, elsewhere the projectors are virtually identical. That includes their compatibility with Crestron’s RoomView software and the ability to monitor and manage the projectors remotely via the RJ45.
