ODEON is delighted to announce the opening of the new ODEON Luxe West End in Leicester Square, as part of The Londoner hotel’s £300m development.
ODEON Luxe West End is one of the first new cinemas to open in London following the national industry shutdown at the height of the COVID crisis. The opening demonstrates the industry’s resilience, as well as ODEON’s continued commitment to investing in its estate.
The opening comes after a summer of strong consumer demand to return to the cinema, with more than 5 million guests coming through the doors since reopening, demonstrating the nation’s continued love for big screen films.

The best experience
ODEON Luxe West End will boast a brand new Dolby Cinema, powered by a dual Dolby Vision laser projector and Dolby Atmos immersive audio, providing the greatest viewing experience for guests through the most cutting-edge technological advancements in both sound and vision.
The new Dolby Cinema will be the second in London and will have 168 seats, made up of 166 luxury recliners and two for wheelchair access. In addition it will have a 13.3m screen and 67 speakers, individually wired and amplified, ensuring that every seat in the house offers film fans an amazing immersive experience transporting them to the on screen action. There will also be a nine metre audio visual entrance to tantalise cinemagoers’ senses before they take their seats.
The new screens are part of the continued rollout of ODEON Luxe, a premium proposition that combines the best in cinematic experience with the ultimate comfort and enhanced food and beverage options. This is something the public have missed while stuck at home and highlights ODEON’s efforts to innovate and develop its guest experience.
Enhanced and diversified offering
ODEON Luxe West End will offer the ultimate guest experience, supported by a fantastic team of both current colleagues and new hires. Featuring our Art-Deco Oscar’s Bar, named after ODEON’s founder and pioneer of modern cinema Oscar Deutsch, which will offer a selection of wines, cocktails and premium beers, to complement the enhanced premium food options. Order & Collect will be in operation, allowing guests to book their tickets, treats and drinks in advance through the app, web or at the in-cinema kiosks. All of this can be enjoyed from the comfort of our luxury recliner chairs, meaning guests can seamlessly watch the films they love whilst making the most of what ODEON has to offer. The luxury screens are also available for hire for both private screenings, conferences and other event types.
Prime location

The new ODEON Luxe West End adds yet more choice of screens and comfort around the Leicester Square area, where ODEON already operates a number of venues. The opening is complementary to ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, home to the UK’s first Dolby Cinema, and ODEON Luxe Haymarket, encapsulating the diversity of experiences that ODEON can bring to customers: from intimate comfort, all the way through to the glamour of premieres.
While the public have been unable to enjoy the full cinematic experience for so long, this investment in the prime West End location is evidence of ODEON coming back stronger and allows guests to enjoy films they love in an even more captivating venue.
Carol Welch, Managing Director ODEON Cinemas Group UK, Ireland says: “I am delighted to be announcing the opening of ODEON Luxe West End in Leicester Square, [one of the first cinemas to open in London since the enforced closures.] We have been really encouraged by the reaction of those returning to our cinemas and this investment further highlights how committed we are to making movies better for our guests, providing the best cinematic experience possible with the continued rollout of ODEON Luxe. I would like to say a huge thank you to all our colleagues for their amazing commitment, resilience and hard work over the last 12 months. We’ve all missed the magic that the cinemas bring to movie watching, and we can’t wait for guests to experience our newest cinema in the heart of the West End.”
John Trafford-Owen, Senior Director Dolby Cinema Group, Europe adds: “You cannot beat the big screen experience and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with ODEON to bring the second Dolby Cinema to London and to the iconic Leicester Square. It’s been a tough year for the cinema industry and it’s wonderful to see this cinema open its doors and the chance for communal film watching to return. Every element of Dolby Cinema is thoughtfully designed to help moviegoers make the journey from the ordinary world to the world of the movie they are watching and we can’t wait to bring that Dolby Cinema experience to even more people in London’s West End.”
