NanoLumens has nabbed a Gold Award in the transportation category at the 2018 DSE APEX Awards, set up to represent the best in the digital signage industry. It received the top honour thanks to its Changi Airport Terminal 4 LED display installation.

At the 2018 DSE APEX Awards, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards were presented to winners in nine digital signage categories from a field of 116 entrants from 10 countries. In the Transportation category, Eventscape Inc. won the Silver Award for Pearson International Airport (GTAA Passenger Information Zone), which includes a NanoLumens ‘flowering’ LED display, and MTA Arts & Design was awarded the Bronze Award for ‘The Fluid’.

It was Changi airport that really impressed judges, however. The 70m wide by 6m tall, 6mm pixel pitch display towers over the airport’s centralised screening area, and has been dubbed one of the largest airport displays in the world. Commercial Integrator Europe covered the giant display back in September.

Speaking about the installation, NanoLumens vice president of global marketing, Joe Lloyd, notes, “Every part of the Changi airport points the way to the future for the entire global air transportation industry.

“We are so proud to have played a role in the project’s success and we thank Electronics & Engineering for partnering with us to make this installation the success that it is.”

Not One But Two Displays

The award didn’t just recognise the giant screen above security, however. It also recognised the 10m wide by 6m tall, 4mm pixel pitch display in the departure transit areas, Heritage Zone. This screen is built directly into a shop house façade with several faux building fronts highlighting the island nation’s architectural evolution from the 1880s to the 1950s.
